How to Fake Your Way to Thicker, More Voluminous Hair

Don’t let your hair-grooming habits stand between you and the locks of your dreams. Here are six things to think about and change if you want to fake having voluminous hair. You can thank us when the compliments start rolling in!

1. Consider your cuts

You might think that you are attached to the length of your tresses, but long locks do have a tendency to look scraggly if they are on the thin side or not in perfect condition. Getting a bob or jaw-length cut can be just as chic and will give fine strands more of a bounce than if your hair were weighed down by split ends.

3. Perfect your product usage

There are plenty of hair products on the market – so many, in fact, that it can make you confused. If you have fine hair, however, there are products can help you to have a good hair day every day if you learn how to use them properly and invest in good-quality buys. Mousse, followed by texturising spray and dry shampoo, can help fatten up strands and create volume.

4. Be a tease

Despite what you might think, teasing hair doesn’t have to be a painful or damaging process – for you or your hair! Use a fine-tooth comb and tease your strands back gently, then apply hairspray to keep it in place, this can be a great way to fake your way to the full head of hair of your dreams. To restore your hair to normal, smother in conditioner and any knots should slip out.

5. Don’t go coco nuts

Coconut oil has, over the last few years, become a staple in many people’s beauty routines. Some use it to remove makeup, while others slather it on their heads as a conditioning mask. We hate to break it to you, but fine-haired folk should really avoid doing this altogether. Coconut oil adds a nice sheen, but it’s too heavy and can make hair flat, greasy-looking and lifeless.

6. Change up your straightening

Straighteners are a great way to tame unruly locks and, if used in a specific way, can also make your hair appear more voluminous. Instead of running your flatiron down the length of your hair to the tips, which can pull the hair flatter, try holding each section of your hair upwards. Run the straightener to the tips but in an upward direction and spray at the roots to set the newly created volume.
